Voice Control Quick Start Guide
Updated for iOS 17 and macOS Sonoma (2024). Focused on full hands-free device control using speech.
Turning Voice Control On/Off
- On iPhone/iPad: Settings > Accessibility > Voice Control > Turn On.
- On Mac: System Settings > Accessibility > Voice Control > Turn On.
- Quick Start (iOS): Triple-click Side or Home button if configured.
Basic Voice Commands
- Wake Up: Say "Wake up" to activate listening.
- Sleep: Say "Go to sleep" to pause listening without turning off.
- Open App: Say "Open [App Name]" (e.g., "Open Safari").
- Go Home: Say "Go Home" (iOS only).
- Go Back: Say "Go back" to return to the previous screen.
and Interaction
- Tap Item: Say "Tap [Button/Link Name]" (e.g., "Tap Send").
- Show Numbers: Say "Show numbers" to display numbers over clickable elements. Then say the number.
- Show Grid: Say "Show grid" to divide screen into numbered sections. Say numbers to zoom/focus.
- Scroll: Say "Scroll up", "Scroll down", "Scroll left", or "Scroll right".
Dictation and Text Editing
- Start Dictating: Start speaking naturally in a text field.
- Delete Text: Say "Delete [word or sentence]".
- Select Text: Say "Select [word or sentence]" to highlight it.
- Correct Text: Say "Correct [word]" for correction suggestions.
Other Useful Commands
- Press Button: "Press [button name]" alternative to "Tap".
- Customize Commands: Add custom phrases and shortcuts under Voice Control Settings.
