TalkBack Quick Start Guide
Updated for Android 13 and 14 versions (2023–2024). Focused on modern web and app accessibility testing.
Turning TalkBack On/Off
- Quick Toggle: Press both Volume Up and Volume Down buttons together for 3 seconds (if enabled).
- Using Google Assistant: Say "Turn on TalkBack" or "Turn off TalkBack".
- Settings: Settings > Accessibility > TalkBack.
Basic
- Explore by Touch: Drag your finger around the screen to hear what is under your finger.
- Swipe Right: Move to next item.
- Swipe Left: Move to previous item.
- Double-Tap Anywhere: Activate the currently focused item.
Gesture Highlights
- Swipe Up or Down: Change setting (e.g., Headings, Links, Controls).
- Swipe Up then Right: Open TalkBack Menu.
- Swipe Down then Left: Go back to previous screen.
- Two-Finger Swipe Up/Down: Scroll up or down through a page or list.
Reading and
- Read From Top: Swipe Down then Right, then select "Read from top".
- Read From Next Item: Swipe Down then Right, then select "Read from next item".
Editing Text
- Move Insertion Point: Swipe Left or Right in a text field.
- Delete Character: Swipe Left then Down.

- TalkBack Tutorial: Settings > Accessibility > TalkBack > Settings > Launch tutorial.
- TalkBack Braille Keyboard: Available under TalkBack Settings if needed.
